Sweet(s) Memories

As Fan Club Secretary I receive all sorts of stories and requests and of late many requests have been about Mike's forthcoming Book. Recently such a request included an interesting 'memory' which the writer has let me share with you.

"I recently saw Mike on you tube being interviewed by Jimmy Jay (I think ) and Mike mentioned the band  Badfinger.....well  I was the original drummer with the band that evolved into Badfinger........Pete Ham and myself started the band.

Pete, of course, remained with the band until his suicide at the age of 26, and of course wrote the massive ballad hit for Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey called 'Without You'. Prior to this,  Roger, Pete and I had this band called The Panthers and we were very fortunate to see The Searchers at our local, the Tower Ballroom in Swansea, at a time when 'Sweets for my Sweet' was climbing the charts and we were absolutely knocked out by the Band.

I recall being amazed at Chris Curtis standing up playing the drums on several of the numbers. When I saw Pete many years after he was a professional musician, and had toured America, and was involved with writing for the Beatles ...he told me that, that night when we saw The Searchers was one of the most exciting of his life....and mine."
